Ford has unveiled the production version of the 2015 Edge, an all-new generation of the company's popular midsize crossover equipped with a number of available high-tech features that exceeds many current luxury cars.

The 2015 Edge offers three engine choices, one of which is a new twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6, which Ford expects to generate around 300 horsepower.

The all-new Edge is based on Ford's global midsize vehicle platform, according to a company release.

Ford confirmed that it now has a wheelbase of 112.2 inches, which is 1 inch longer than the current Edge.

The 2015 Edge builds "on the emotional appeal of the vehicle by offering more of the technology our customers want in a package that meets the highest expectations for quality and craftsmanship," according to Ford's Group Vice President for Global Product Development Raj Nair.

Features found on the vehicle includes: a 180-degree front camera with washer and side parking sensors, adaptive steering, and an enhanced active park assist.

Ford said that adaptive steering will be a standard feature on the 2015 Edge Sport and optional for the Edge's new Titanium trim level, according to the release.

Engine automatic stop-start, active grille shutter, and a new active "air curtain" created alongside the vehicle, are all new efficiency-enhancing innovations found on the vehicle.

Lane-keeping warning, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control are also available options.

Beside the new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, the 2015 model will have an enhanced version of the current 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder that will generate an estimated 245 hp and 270 pound-feet of torque.

A 3.5-liter V6 will also be available to customers. A six-speed automatic with paddle-shift capability will be the only transmission mated to any of the three available engine options, according to Ford. 

The Edge will be available in front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive options.

Interested customers can expect almost 2 inches more front legroom, 1 inch more rear legroom and an inch more headroom all around inside the vehicle.

The touchscreen size for the Sync and MyFord Touch infotainment interfaces will likely be around 8 inches, according to Ford.

The automaker has yet to price the new Edge, which will compete with vehicles like the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2014 Nissan Murano.

The 2015 Edge will hit dealerships sometime in the first quarter of 2015.

Vehicles will be built at Ford's assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
