New LinkedIn Job Search App Is Totally Private

LinkedIn has launched its first standalone app for mobile devices and promised total privacy for users, a rarity in the social media world.

The main LinkedIn site tracks when users view each other's profiles and has features to inform you who has looked at your page, something that can be unintentionally informative.

"It can be hard to search for a job while you're at your desk, not to mention the potentially awkward conversation with your current boss. Our goal is to help make this process easier for you and to help you be discreet," product manager Daniel Ayele said in a company blog post. "We keep everything you do within the app private by not sharing your activity with your network."

Free for iOS, LinkedIn Job Search allows users to search for and apply to jobs; other versions of the app are in the works as well, TechCrunch reported.

According to LinkedIn, the focused Job Search app has more features than the previous main app, including more detailed, customizable ways to search for jobs and more insight on how your connections tap into a prospective company.

The app also has notifications for new jobs and application deadlines to keep you up to speed. It features Advanced Search to filter prospective employers and recommends jobs tailored for each user, according to the blog post.

LinkedIn has around 300 million users, 40 percent of which use mobile devices to get on the social network, TechCrunch reported.

The company has been threatened with a class-action lawsuit from LinkedIn users after a federal ruling last week, PCMag.com reported. The lawsuit alleges that the networking site spams email contacts with its practice of sending invitations to join the site.
