Teen Uses Stolen Credit Card to Rent Car and Vacation Home

A teenager remained in jail on June 8 after being arrested on suspicion of using stolen credit cards to rent a $240,000 sports car and a $12 million vacation home, according to the Associated Press.

Mohanned Halaweh, 19, was arrested on June 4 after being pulled over while driving a 2012 McLaren coupe he rented for $13,000 and was reported stolen by its owner, Sonoma County Sheriff's Sgt. Sgt. Michael Raasch said to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Raasch said Halaweh also paid $27,000 to rent an estate in Glen Ellen.

Halaweh has been charged with four felonies: credit card fraud, identity theft, receiving stolen property, and vehicle theft, along with an enhancement charge of being in possession of firearm during the commission of a felony.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat identified the teen as a former standout basketball player at a Sebastopol high school.

Back in March Halaweh was charged with allegedly using a fake credit card to try purchasing 14 iPhones and labtops at an Apple Store in Berkeley, according to the Associated Press.

Halaweh is currently being held on $100,000 bail. He has not yet entered a plea.

A 19-year-old man who was a passenger in the McLaren being driven by Halaweh was also arrested and could face charges, Raasch said.

Both teens were booked into Sonoma County Jail.
