The 2015 Subaru Outback has been priced at $25,745, which makes for a $1,425 increase over the 2014 model.

Redesigned for the 2015 model year, the base Subaru Outback is expected to arrive at dealerships this summer, Edmunds.com reported. The starting price for the base model includes an $850 shipping fee; the fully optioned Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited starts at $33,845, including the destination fee.

The price increase is because of the standard continuously variable transmission upgrade that is now part of the base Outback.

"All trim lines add more standard amenities, conveniences and new infotainment systems for 2015," Subaru said in a statement quoted by Edmunds.

According to Subaru, the 2015 Outback has improved fuel economy compared with its predecessor. The vehicle is expected to offer 25 miles per gallon in city driving and 33 mpg on the highway, while the 2014 model returned 24 mpg in city driving and 30 mpg on the highway. The EPA has not yet released official numbers for the new Outback.

The latest model will include X-Mode, Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist in the standard trim. The systems work with the Outback's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive to guide the car over slick roads, steep inclines and other difficult territory.

For an additional $1,695, drivers can add a moonroof and power rear gate option package.

The Outback competes in its segment with the Ford Escape, GMC Terrain, Jeep Cherokee and Toyota Highlander, according to Edmunds.
