GM Recall: 1,339,355 Vehicles Called Back Over Faulty Seatbelts

General Motors is recalling over a million vehicles including the 2009-'14 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia crossover vehicles to fix a seatbelt issue, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Approximately 1,339,355 vehicles were called back to repair front seatbelt cables that can wear out and eventually fail, increasing the chance of a crash.

GM has contacted its dealers telling them not to sell new or used models of the vehicles until the necessary repairs are made.

No fatalites have occurred as a result of the issue, according to a GM statement.

"In the affected vehicles, the flexible steel cable that connects the seatbelt to the front outboard seating positions may fatigue and separate over time," said NHTSA regarding the issue. "If the steel cable becomes fatigued and separates, the seatbelt may not properly restrain the seat occupant, increasing the risk of an injury in a crash."

Affected Enclaves were manufactured from April 14, 2008 through May 14, 2014, according to the NHTS.

Affected Traverses were built from June 6, 2008 through May 14, 2014, and affected Acadias were built from April 9, 2008 through May 14, 2014.

GM dealers are being instructed to repair and replace the lap pretensioner. Necessary repairs will be made free of charge.

No date has been set for the recall yet, according to the automaker.

Owners with more questions can contact Buick at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC at 1-800-462-8782.
