General Motors is recalling over 1,000 2015 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV SUVs due to an issue with front passenger-seat airbags according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Approximately 1,402 vehicles are affected by the recall. The airbags may only partially deploy in the event of a crash, according to the safety administration.

GM said all of its dealers have been told to stop selling the Escalades until parts are available to make repairs.

Approximately 224 customers have either been called or sent an email regarding the issue. The warning instructs owners not to let occupants sit in the front passenger seat until repairs have been made.

No crashes or injuries have been linked to the recall, according to the NHTSA.

GM has confirmed that the issue has been corrected at the supplier and Escalade production is under way at its Arlington, Texas Assembly Plant.

"In the affected vehicles, the airbag module is secured to a chute adhered to the backside of the instrument panel with an insufficiently heated infrared weld," said NHTSA regarding the issue. "This may result in only a partial deployment of the front passenger airbag in the event of a crash. In the event of an accident, an airbag that only partially deploys increases the risk of occupant injury."

Parts to repair the issue are not available at this point, according to GM.

Dealers are being instructed to replace the instrument panel right side upper trim panel when parts become available.

All repairs will be made free of charge.

A recall date has not been set yet by the automaker.
