California Dealership Launches Toy 2015 Ford Mustang Into Space

A California dealership launched a toy 2015 Ford Mustang into space to celebrate the vehicle's 50th anniversary.

The dealership, Big Valley Ford, sent the toy into space by tying a high-altitude weather balloon to the vehicle.

A camera was also attached to the car to document its voyage.

The team was able to recover the car around six hours after the launch. The camera was still running as well, according to a post on the dealerships Facebook page.

A video of the voyage has over 86,000 views as of press time.

The promotional event is just one of many to take place to celebrate the anniversary of the pony car.

Ford put a 2015 Mustang convertible on the roof of the Empire State Building last month to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the vehicle.

The vehicle was displayed from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. on April 16-17. The vehicle was cut into three main sections, plus the windshield, to be transported via elevators.

Ford introduced its first Mustang on April 17, 1964 at the World's Fair in N.Y. A prototype was brought to the Empire State Building a year later.

"No portable crane can reach the 86th floor observatory and the spire towering above the relatively narrow deck makes helicopter delivery impossible," said Ford before the vehicle reached the roof in a statement. "That leaves the elevators as the only viable option."

Ford said this week a U.K.-based artist has created a limited-edition 1965 Ford Mustang fastback sculpture to celebrate the milestone of one of the most iconic sports cars ever manufactured.

Just 500 individual works will be produced, each cast in solid aluminum and signed by the artist.
