2015 Buick Models to Come Standard With Rearview Cameras

All 2015 Buick vehicles will reportedly come standard with a rearview camera, according to a General Motors press release.

The automaker didn't confirm how much the cameras will add to the cost of a 2015 Buick vehicle, but did say some of the vehicles to expect to come with the feature.

"Safety and technology top the lists of important considerations for Buick customers," GM said in a statement. "That's why every 2015 Buick model will come standard with a rearview camera."

Vehicles that will come with a rearview camera includes the 2015 Buick Enclave, Encore, LaCrosse, Regal, and Verano, according to the release.

Buick is determined to become the latest automaker to equip its vehicles with the safety feature. Such systems allow drivers to see whether objects or people are in the blind spot behind the vehicles.

The system also helps prevent "backover" accidents as well, according to the release.

Earlier this year Honda said that by the 2015 model year all Honda and Acura vehicles will have rearview cameras as standard features.

Subaru is also making the feature standard in all vehicles, and it will also be standard on all 2015 Ford Focus vehicles as well, according to Edmunds.

"Of the technologies tested for their potential to reduce backover incidents, the camera-based systems may have the greatest potential to provide drivers with reliable assistance in identifying people in the path of the vehicle when backing," said NHTSA in a recent report.

Approximately 53 percent of 2013 model year vehicles come with rearview cameras as standard equipment on at least one trim level, according to Edmunds.
