Spotify Finally Updates Windows App with Browse, Discover Features

Spotify has revamped its Windows Phone app version to give it the same look and feel of its Android and iOS counterparts, CNET reported.

The redesign marks the first such major update since the Spotify app for Windows launched in 2011 and offers a more visual look and improved access to the search and playlist features, according to CNET.

Introducing the "Browse" and "Discover" options, the update helps users find new favorite songs and playlists for any occasion, Spotify said in a company blog post.

Browse is a way for users to connect with playlists curated by Spotify and geared toward different moods and activities, while Discover gives listeners personalized recommendations of songs.

Another feature new to the Windows app is "Radio," which lets Spotify users make their own stations or choose one that's already streaming.

While Spotify has occasionally updated the Windows app, the company generally focuses on the iOS and Android versions.

"That Spotify has updated the Windows Phone app suggests it's at least thinking more about Windows Phone, which is a good thing for that platform's users," CNET noted.

Engadget pointed out that the three new features, which are "staples" on iOS and Android, were promised to Windows app users back in February.

Listening to Spotify on a device requires a Spotify Premium subscription. New users can try out the service for free for 30 days.
