2014 NY Auto Show: Subaru Debuts 2015 Rallycross STI

Subaru of America debuted its new 2015 WRX STI sedan prepared in Rallycross Supercar Trim this week at the New York International Auto Show

The big debut was designed to excite motorsport enthusiasts, as the automaker will enter the vehicle in the RedBull Global Rallycross Championship this fall, according to a company press release.

Subaru confirmed its 2015 Rallycross STI was prepared by Vermont SportsCar.

The vehicle includes a custom widebody, a classic rally car-style roof ventilation scoop, and an STI wing integrated with carbon fiber aerodynamic enhancements.

Subaru confirmed its 2015 Rallycross STI is equipped with a 600HP turbocharged Subaru boxer engine mated to a sequential gearbox with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

The 2015 Rallycross STI will also come with an advanced rally-spec suspension, and Method Race Wheels, according to the release.

"This unique livery design is a joint project between Subaru, the RedBull Global Rallycross Championship, and NBC for the New York International Auto Show" said Rob Weir, Subaru Motorsports Marketing Manager, according to the release. "At Subaru, we are very encouraged by the direction RedBull GRC is going. We're looking forward to new race venues and a more intimate experience for our fans."

NBC Sports Group recently reached a deal to broadcast The RedBull Global Rallycross Championship. Nine of the ten rounds will air on NBC, and encore showings will air on NBCSN.

NBCSN will also air the Rally America Championship, according to the automaker. Subaru has won the title seven times over the last eight years.

"We are excited about the collaboration between RedBull GRC, team stakeholders and NBC Sports Group, and look forward to a successful season." said Gary Quinn, Vice President, Programming and Owned Properties, NBC Sports Group, according to the release.

The first Global Rallycross round is set to take place on May 18 in Barbados.
