Ford To Debut Transit Luxury Concept at New York Auto Show

Ford is launching a luxury van concept at the upcoming New York Auto Show, touting the new Transit Luxury Concept as "a private jet on wheels."

Built by Galpin Auto Sports, the van is designed to be used in limousine and luxury transportation services, Edmunds.com reported. The concept will make its official debut at the New York International Auto Show on April 16 at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, the automaker said.

"We are sincerely excited to work with Ford in creating the future of luxury travel," Galpin Auto Sports' President Beau Boeckmann said in a statement. "Tapping our history of creating the conversion van segment in the 1960s and '70s, as well as our recent high-tech work, together with Ford we have brought the modern ultra-premium van to life."

The Transit Skyliner has a custom exterior with metallic silver paint and Forgiato wheels. Inside, the luxury van features a built-in bar, "throne"-style seating that can be moved around and a movie screen measuring 52 inches.

The interior can be configured into four different modes for theater, business, reception or travel, while the adjustable seats can be repositioned automatically through a smartphone or tablet. The concept also comes with a set of custom luggage to pair with the vehicle's leather-trimmed seats.

"Transit Skyliner is the ultimate expression of a custom Transit," Tim Stoehr, Ford manager for commercial truck marketing, said in a press release. "We created the vehicle to highlight the potential of the Ford Transit platform for the limousine market and to showcase Transit as the next generation of modern, cool, fuel-efficient vans."

The 2015 Ford Transit van offers two wheelbases, three roof heights and three powertrains to accommodate a range of transportation needs, said the press release.
