The 2015 Chrysler 200 will deliver 18 miles per gallon in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway with optional all-wheel drive.

Featuring a 3.6-liter V6 engine, the midsize sedan also has nine-speed automatic transmission and can operate in front-wheel drive when four-wheel drive isn't needed, Edmunds.com reported.

"The Chrysler 200 sedan's innovative available all-wheel-drive system is the first to deliver an automatic fully disconnecting rear axle, improving fuel economy by reducing parasitic loss when all-wheel drive is not needed," Chrysler said in a statement on Saturday, as quoted by Edmunds.

The 2015 version starts at $22,695, including a $995 destination charge, a price that is $95 less than the current model. The updated sedan is expected to arrive at dealerships this spring, when it will likely be competing with the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry, according to Edmunds.  

The EPA hasn't yet released fuel economy figures for the 2015 Chrysler 200's front-wheel drive version.

All-wheel drive and the V6 engine are featured in the 2015 Chrysler 200S and 200C. The top-of-the-line 200C model has a listing price of $31,190, including shipping, according to Edmunds.

The base 2015 Chrysler 200 should deliver highway fuel economy ratings of 35 mpg when paired with the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which compares with the 2014 version delivering 21 mpg in city driving and 30 mpg on the highway.

According to Chrysler, the new "Tigershark" four-cylinder engine in the 2015 version of the 200 will improve fuel economy by around 13 percent.

With increasing gas prices, better fuel economy is good news. The average price of unleaded gas in the country rose from $3.39 last month to $3.52 this month, Edmunds reported.
