New Cloak iPhone App Is the 'Antisocial Network'

Cloak is the new iPhone app that's perfect for avoiding people.

While it will only be able to protect you from friends addicted to social media, Cloak can be handy for when you want to dodge a frenemy or are having a bad hair day and just don't want to run into anyone you know.

Cloak, which is subtitled "Incognito Mode for Real Life," has launched for the iPhone and works by gathering FourSquare and Instagram data, Yahoo Tech reported.

Using geographic data garnered through their location functions, Cloak taps into FourSquare and Instagram to alert you whenever friends are too close for comfort. The app will let you know when people are close by and allow you to "flag" undesirable parties.

"Think of it as the antisocial network," says the website.

People are shown on a map with their photos, so you can click on each person to flag. The app also has a variety of settings so you can change up the "alert distance," which ranges from half a mile to 2 miles away.  Of course, it only works properly if the person checks into FourSquare and posts on Instagram often enough.

Cloak is focused and works with a simple interface, according to Yahoo Tech's Alyssa Bereznak. It comes from Chris Baker, a developer who has also created a filtering system that replaces baby pictures with photos of cats. Perhaps in the future, Cloak can work with other social networks such as Facebook and Twitter to become even more accurate.

Cloak recently launched and so far has 2,000 users, according to Baker's website.
