Xbox One Supply Sells Out for UK Retailer That Cut Price

A British retailer has sold all of its Xbox One consoles in stock after slashing the $499 cost to make it the same price as Sony's PlayStation 4.

Microsoft's Xbox One typically retails for $100 more than the PlayStation 4, but retailer Maplin reduced the price to boost sales on Wednesday, GameSpot reported. The number of consoles sold at the reduced price wasn't available.

While the slashed price didn't come from Microsoft, the sale was still the first example of the two consoles being available for the same price, according to GameSpot.

The competitors released new consoles around the same time and have been fighting for the top spot. Sony reported last month that its PlayStation 4 had seen nearly double the sales of the Xbox One.

Playstation announced that the device was "the #1 selling game console in the US in January, still #1 worldwide," GameSpot reported at the time.

In a statement to reporters including The Wall Street Journal, Sony said PlayStation 4 sales were about double those of "the nearest next gen competitor" and that the new console has been the top seller since it debuted in November.

Microsoft hopes to boost Xbox One sales with the new game title "Titanfall," which launched on Tuesday.

The company offered a deal where the shooter adventure was available for free with the purchase of a console for $499, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Titanfall, which Microsoft has been marketing since last June, has a first-person perspective and takes users through an urban battlefield. Players in the game direct "Titans," which are machines similar to robots that can be programmed to fight.
