Kurt Busch to Attempt Indy 500, NASCAR's Coke 500 Same Day

Driver Kurt Busch announced this week that he'll attempt to drive in NASCAR' Coca-Cola 600 and the Indianapolis 500 on the same day, May 25, according to ESPN.

If Busch qualifies for the Indy 500, he would become just the fourth driver to attempt "the double."

Busch would drive approximately 1,100 miles in the events combined.

"It's a big day for us," Busch said in a statement while appearing on Fox & Friends. "The logistical side is a big challenge, and the other challenge was getting two teams with the caliber of Andretti Autosport and Stewart-Haas Racing lined up. Cessna's plane travel company is going to help me get back and forth. In this day and age of social media, everyone's going to want to keep up with us. It's Memorial Day weekend, and this isn't just a PR stunt."

Busch drives for Stewart-Haas Racing, which is co-owned by former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart.

Stewart completed the double twice, in 1999 and 2001, respectively. The two others drivers to do so were John Andretti in 1994 and Robby Gordon in 2004.

Busch would have to drive in the Indy 500 and then fly to Concord, N.C., for the Coke 600,

The Coke 600 is set to be held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, and takes place mostly at night.

Busch's Indy car will be prepared by the Andretti Autosport team, which is run by former lndyCar Series driver Michael Andretti.

Busch tested in an Indy car with Andretti Autosport in 2013.

"To go to the famous Brickyard with the iconic Andretti name, it doesn't get much cooler or better than that," Busch said in the statement.
