Toyota Unofficially Unveils TE-S800 Hybrid Concept (VIDEO)

Toyota has unofficially teased a TE-S800 PHEV hybrid car, showing off the plug-in roadster at last month's Tokyo Auto Salon.

Autoblog.com featured footage of the bright green two-seater, which is a plug-in hybrid that runs on a standard 115-horsepower gas engine and a 102-horsepower electric motor.

The roadster, which has the steering wheel on the right side, has an impressive zero to 60--less than 6 seconds. It also has "outstanding" fuel economy, Autoblog reported.

The snazzy concept comes from the Toyota Engineering Society, which is a volunteer collective that mostly comprises Toyota engineers and has about 30,000 members worldwide, according to Digital Trends.

Weighing in at less than 2,000 pounds, the sporty vehicle matches more than 200 horsepower with a "featherweight car," Autoblog said.

Besides the Engineering Society's offering, Toyota brought around 30 vehicles to the Tokyo Auto Salon, including the Harrier G Sports Concept, a modified version of Toyota's new crossover, and the Vitz RS G Sports Concept, which Autoblog calls a "sported-out Yaris."

The Japanese automaker showcased 34 customized vehicles altogether at the event, Autoblog reported. Toyota also featured customized cars from Gazoo Racing, G Sports, Modellista and TRD.

"Toyota's Japanese in-house tuning division GRMN modified the domestic Mark X sport sedan, replete with 3.5-liter V6 and six-speed manual, with an optimized suspension, brakes and Torsen limited-slip differential," Autoblog reported on the event in January. "It was joined by the GRMN 86 Concept that brings Gazoo Racing's experience on the Nürburgring to the streets of Japan with a lower curb weight, enhanced powertrain and a firmer suspension."
