Looking To Buy? See The 5 Most Common Mechanical Problems for Popular Sedans

Different makes are bound to have different mechanical issues, but a new report shows that you can actually find out what problems your car may have in the future before you buy it.

Using data from more than 30 million users, community Q&A website Fixya has released a report on the most common problems with five best-selling sedans. The report, which is based on four million troubleshooting requests from Fixya users, looked at models from the past decade by vehicle line, the company said in a blog post. The report listed the most common problems as well as various repair solutions.

Of the five cars, the Toyota Camry was chosen by users as the most reliable car by having the lowest problem-to-cars sold ratio, said a Fixya press release.

If you're looking to purchase a new car and want to know what to expect, the list could be especially handy. Here are the five sedans examined in the Fixya study.

Honda Accord

Transmission was the most common problem for Honda Accord drivers, according to the report. Some issues described by Fixya users included noises from under the hood, stalling engine and warning lights on the dashboard.

Toyota Camry

For the Toyota Camry, the top reported problem was an issue with the gas pedal and acceleration. Drivers reported the gas pedal sticking while driving and the gas pedal becoming difficult to move or unresponsive.

Ford Focus

The most common problem for Ford Focus drivers was found in the power steering. Users described a whining noise while the car was turning, the power steering temporarily going out while driving and the steering wheel vibrating when brakes were applied.

Honda Civic

The Honda Civic's weak point seemed to be brake lights. Even though malfunctioning brake lights are far from being the most dangerous issue, they do impair your ability to signal other drivers.

Users said they had problems with brake lights not working even after the bulbs were replaced and the brake lights not turning on or flickering on and off.

Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Corolla also had gas pedal and acceleration issues, according to Fixya users, who described the gas pedal sticking while driving, tangling with the floor mat and becoming difficult to move or unresponsive.
