2014 Ram ProMaster Van Recalled Over Accelerator Pedal Issue

Chrysler is recalling its 2014 Ram ProMaster full-size vans to repair an issue that could allow an accelerator pedal to stick, according to a statement posted on the automaker's website.

Approximately 9,655 vehicles are affected by the recall, half of which are still at dealerships.

"Chrysler Group will conduct a voluntary safety recall to install a new pedal stop in an estimated 9,655 full-size vans," Chrysler said in its statement. "The new pedal stop resolves a condition that may allow an accelerator pedal to stick in the wide-open position if force is applied at an angle. Affected are 2014 Ram ProMaster vans."

Chrysler has issued a stop-sale order on currently unsold 2014 Ram ProMaster vehicles.

Chrysler said it currently doesn't know of any related injuries, accidents or customer complaints.

"The issue was discovered during testing at a Chrysler Group facility, where a driver applied downward force at an angle," the automaker said. "Chrysler Group engineers investigated and determined a 3.0-inch stop, which went into production four days after the incident, did not bind, even when force was applied to the accelerator pedal at an angle.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has yet to comment on the recall at press time.

Ram dealers are being instructed to install a new pedal stop, free of charge.

"This change had been previously scheduled," said the automaker. "The new stop represents a more robust design and improves pedal feel at wide-open throttle."
