Chrysler, Nissan Among Automakers to Report Strong January Sales

January might have just ended a couple of days ago, but automakers are already confirming sales results for some of the top-selling vehicles of the month, like the Lincoln MKZ and Nissan Leaf.

Chrysler has reported that it sold 127,183 vehicles in the U.S., an 8 percent increase compared to vehicles sold last January.

Four different Chrysler vehicles set sales records last month. Those vehicles include the Jeep Patriot, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Compass, and Chrysler 200.

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee exceeded Wrangler sales for the second straight month, according to the automaker.

"The bad weather only seemed to affect our competitors' stores as we had a great January," said Reid Bigland, Chrysler head of U.S. sales, in a company statement.

Ford said sales dropped 7 percent last month, but did point out "a bright spot is Lincoln, which had its strongest sales in four years."

The automaker confirmed that it sold 2,122 Lincoln MKZ vehicles, an increase of 368 percent.

Nissan reportedly sold 90,470 vehicles last month in the U.S., an increase of 11.8 percent compared to the same time in 2013.

Nissan vehicles that set sales records last month include the Nissan Altima and the Nissan Juke, according to the automaker.

General Motors said last month was their "best January ever," for its Chevrolet Cruze and Cadillac SRX.

Total GM sales were down 12 percent compared to January 2013 however.
