White Powder Sent to Sites Near Super Bowl Called ‘Harmless’

Police have confirmed letters containing "a suspicious powder" that were sent to locations in New York City and New Jersey, which is site of the 2014 Super Bowl, are "harmless," according to Reuters.

No injuries have been reported yet. The New York City Police, New Jersey State Police and FBI were all involved in the investigation.

Police in N.Y. said one of the envelopes were sent to former mayor Rudolph Giuliani.

Another letter was sent to a hotel in Carlstadt, N.J. which contained a "loose white powder," according to the Econo Lodge general manager Eylem Naik.

"The letters were delivered in different communities and to different establishments, including Rutherford, East Rutherford and Lyndhurst," Naik said, according to Reuters.

At least two hotels also received letters containing the suspicious powder.

Police in New Jersey and New York have been in full force around the metropolitan area as the NFL Title game will be played on Feb. 2 at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

East Rutherford is just 10 miles west of New York City.

Around 400,000 visitors have traveled to the N.J./N.Y. area for the Super Bowl and related events.

Both Super Bowl participants, the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks, have been staying at hotels located in Jersey City the past week.
