iPhone 6 With A8 Processor Coming in June?

Multiple media outlets have reported that production for Apple's A8 processor will start during the second quarter of 2014.

At least three product packaging companies have received orders placed by Apple for a new A8 processor, including Amkor Technology, STATS ChipPAC and Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE), according to DigiTimes.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has also received wafer bumping orders for the next-generation A8 chip, and it will start production for it during Q2, according to the report.

The company is using 20nm process technology to make the processors. The chip will be a package-on-package (PoP) SoC solution, by using "processors and mobile DRAM," in one package, according to DigiTimes.

Chinese Analyst Sun Changxu recently said to QQ Tech that Apple's next device, expected to be the called the iPhone 6, will be released in June with production starting in May.

This report was also confirmed by Jefferies analyst Peter Misek, who also recently said that the device could be released in June 2014.

Not everyone agrees with the June release date however. Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri was recently quoted saying that he thinks the iPhone 6 will be released in September, around a year after the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C became available.

Apple is supposedly working on two iPhone 6 devices: a 4.5-inch-to 4.8-inch display device with a 1280 x 720 resolution, and a 5-inch to 5.7-inch device with a 1920 x 1080 resolution device.

Apple has yet to comment on the new processor, nor have they revealed when the new smartphone will be released.
