2014 Volkswagen Jetta Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From NHTSA

The 2014 Volkswagen Jetta has earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the automaker.

The NHTSA has not yet rated the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen. The five-star rating does include the 2014 Jetta Hybrid, however.

The NHTSA said the Jetta earned a five-star rating in the side crash test, a four-star rating in the rollover crash test, and a four-star rating in the frontal crash test, according to Safercar.gov.

VW also confirmed recently that the Jetta earned a "good" rating in all crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The vehicle did earn a "marginal" rating in the tough new small overlap front crash test, however.

The small overlap crash test was designed to replicate what could happen if the front corner of a vehicle hits another vehicle or an object like a utility pole or tree, according to the IIHS.

VW now has three models to earn an overall five-star rating from the NHTSA, including the 2014 Volkswagen Passat and 2014 Beetle.

VW's new Jetta is available now.
