Pinterest lovers who have long wanted the ability to pin Jennifer Lawrence GIFs may soon be in luck.

The photo-sharing website is looking to add playing GIFs, testing them out with a new feature available to select pinners, Mashable reported.

The feature works through a small "play" button on the left-hand corner of an image that users can press to play or pause the GIF. For most users, GIFs currently only appear as still images when they're pinned.

"We're always working on ways to help people discover and save the things they love, which can include animated GIFs," a Pinterest spokesperson said in an exclusive statement to Mashable. "We've heard from the community that they'd like the ability to post and view GIFs as Pins, so we're testing ways to make that happen."

Mashable first noticed the new feature through fashion search engine Wantering. The site, which lets users shop across different stores and sign up for notifications about their favorite items, has a Pinterest board and recently featured playable GIFs.

Still more interesting, the feature can apparently identify existing GIFs since those that had been previously uploaded by Wantering were also playable.

Pinterest hasn't disclosed how many users can play GIFs or when they might be available for all pinners.

The San Francisco-based social network recently acquired VisualGraph, a startup focusing on image recognition and visual search technologies, TechCrunch reported.

VisualGraph could be used to help the photo-sharing site identify what kinds of pins people are looking for. Pinterest could eventually recognize a style of clothing frequently pinned by a user and suggest pins through VisualGraph technology.

Pinterest said of the new addition, "The acquisition of VisualGraph will help us build technology to better understand what people are Pinning. By doing so, we hope to make it easier for people to find the things they love."
