Apple has confirmed that users with broken iPhone 5C screens will be able to get repair work done at Apple Stores for the first time ever, according to CNN.

Users with damaged iPhone 5C displays that don't have AppleCare+ will be able to pay a fee of $149 to get the screen repaired at their local Apple Store.

Previously, users with broken screens had to pay a fee of $229 and Apple employees would send the damaged device to an off-site repair center, according to CNN.

A spokesman for Apple has declined to comment so far.

Apple offered in-store repairs for the iPhone 5 starting this past June to repair broken screens.

Screens for devices like the iPhone 5S and iPhone 4S cannot be repaired in-store yet, as those devices are still sent to an off-site location, according to CNN.

In-store repairs are predicted to save the company approximately $1 billion per year in expenses.

The on-site repairs were first reported last week on 9to5mac.com.

The iPhone 5C was released in Sept. 2013 as a cheaper smartphone option compared to the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S.

In-store repairs for the iPhone 5C will hurt third-party repair services, which are usually cheaper but void the iPhone warranty, according to CNN.
