Car Carrying L.A. Mayor Hits, Injuries Pedestrian

A police vehicle carrying Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti hit and injured a woman who was taken to a local hospital with "non-life threatening injuries" on Jan. 14, according to Reuters.

Garcetti was not driving the vehicle nor did he witness it, according to the mayor's office, who spoke with Reuters.

He also spoke with L.A. Police Department investigators to provide the limited amount of information he knew regarding the incident.

"I'm very concerned about her and wish her a speedy recovery," Garcetti said in the statement. "I look forward to speaking with her soon."

Garcetti took office this past July in L.A.

The spokeswoman for Garcetti said she had "no information" regarding the woman's identity or current condition.

The Los Angeles Times confirmed that the black SUV being driven by a police officer hit and hospitalized a woman approximately 60-years-old.

L.A. Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey confirmed that the woman suffered non-life threatening injures but couldn't comment on her current condition either.

Garcetti's vehicle was heading east on 2nd toward City Hall when the incident occurred.

Witnesses have said the woman was crossing 2nd against the light when she was hit, according to The Los Angeles Times.

The woman involved in the incident has not been fined as of yet.
