BMW App Being Developed For Galaxy Gear Watches

Plenty of big announcements have been made at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and BMW is the latest to join the party.

At the show, the automaker revealed that it is teaming up with Samsung to make what they've called the BMW i Remote App, which will help connect drivers from their Galaxy Gear watches to their BMW i3 vehicles.

The app was demonstrated at the CES this week, which is being held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"The rapid spread of smartphones means that the internet, apps, and digital services have long since become established elements of daily life," said BMW Group's in a statement in their CES Press Kit. "And smartwatches like the new Samsung Galaxy Gear are driving this trend ever onwards.

The Remote app will allow drivers to access information like their i3's battery level and available range, according to the automaker. The app will also be able to tell customers if their doors, sunroof, or windows are closed.

Temperature levels can be controlled through the app as well, according to BMW.

"In Las Vegas, BMW became the world's first carmaker to present vehicle functions on the electronic wristwatch as part of a research application," said BMW. "The Samsung Galaxy Gear with BMW i Remote App keeps drivers connected with their BMW i3 at all times and also works efficiently to provide them with the assistance they need outside the car."

The BMW Remote App will also be controlled by voice commands through the Galaxy S Voice app, according to the automaker.

Other automakers to make headlines at CES this week includes Audi, Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota. Make sure to check back to find out the latest news from Las Vegas.
