Audi plans to "redefine mobility" with its next generation of vehicles, Chairman Rupert Stadler said Monday at a keynote speech, part of the Consumer Electronics Show.

The German carmaker showcased self-driving vehicles and impressed attendees with a light show, PCMag reported.

Kunal Nayyar, known for playing Raj on CBS' "The Big Bang Theory," displayed Audi's new self-driving cars, including an A7 that drove itself onstage and the Audi Sport laserlight concept.

Both vehicles feature Audi's zFAS system under the hood; PCMag calls the zFAS "the brain" of each car.

Close to the size of an iPod, the intricate system brings together the "vehicle's radar, video cameras, laser scanner, data from the navigation system and ultra-sonic data from the front and sides of the car," according to PCMag.

With lasers that reach the length of five football fields, the sport concept combines laser-light and matrix LED technology. According to Audi, the new laser headlamps are three times stronger than conventional LEDs.

The Audi Sport concept also features a 110-kilowatt electric engine with a V8 engine to go more than 90 miles on one gallon of gas.

Along with autonomous technology and laser headlights, Audi plans to incorporate greater connectivity into its models.

The keynote included an announcement about Audi's partnership with AT&T, which will be providing 4G wireless in the Audi A3.

"No matter who we ask ... people want to be connected," Stadler said. "If mobility used to be about connecting places and people, it is now about connecting the driver with the car, the car's surroundings, the traffic infrastructure, and all of the other connected elements of their life."

These innovations are part of what Stadler called the "fourth era" for cars. After creating cars, implementing them into people's daily lives and making them more luxurious, automakers are now seeking to provide greater mobility.
