2014 International CES: Chevrolet AppShop Introduced to Enhance GM Vehicles

The Chevrolet AppShop was officially unveiled this week at the 2014 International CES.

The new AppShop will provide drivers free access to podcasts, weather, traffic alerts, and music apps, all of which can be accessed inside a Chevrolet vehicle, according to the automaker.

Vehicles that will be able to use the AppShop includes: the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Equinox, Impala, Malibu, Volt, Silverado and Silverado HD. More vehicles are expected to be equipped with the AppShop at a later date.

The apps would be free to download with an active data plan, GM confirmed at the event.

One of the new apps revealed this week is a Vehicle Health app that was designed to use vehicle data to provide drivers with a detailed diagnostic reports and maintenance notifications, according to GM.

The app will likely be released before the end of 2014.

Another app that the automaker is excited about is the Priceline.com app, which lets consumers look for, compare, and book hotel rooms.

The Weather Channel app provides audible and visual information needed during a driver's journey. 

A Glympse app lets users share their current location with others, including the estimated arrival time, and current speed.

The AppShop will also come with apps to access music like iHeartRadio, TuneIn, Slacker, Kaliki, and NPR.
