Ford Releases Footage of 2015 Mustang Lighting Lab Testing (VIDEO)

When the brand-new 2015 Ford Mustang was in its design phase, Ford put the vehicle through testing at its Visual Performance Evaluation Lab, which is more commonly recognized as the Lighting Lab.

The 2015 Mustang was put through testing to evaluate the vehicle's interior under a number of different light conditions, according to a company press release.

Since being introduced in 2006, the Lighting Lab has helped Ford workers reduce the glare on instrument panels and controls found inside its vehicles.

The Lighting Lab has over 270 lights, according to Ford.

"With the Lighting Lab, we can ensure that the first time a buyer sits in the 2015 Ford Mustang, that person will be able to see the interior as the designers originally envisioned it, in the best light possible," said Mahendra Dassanayake, Ford lighting technical specialist in statement. "Whether the car is parked outside or is sitting on an auto show floor, whether it is a bright, sunny day, or overcast and snowing, the materials and controls in the Mustang will be both visually satisfying and highly functional."

When Ford engineers and designers were working on the new Mustang, they used the Lighting Lab for a number of reasons, like making sure that the vehicle's gauge pack can be seen no matter the season or what time of day it is.

The gauge pack is optional for the 2015 Mustang, but it was still important to the company to make sure those who do want it will be able to access it.

Designers also worked to make sure the aluminum dash panel wouldn't glare while under a number of different lighting conditions.
