Ford Motor Co. will supposedly reveal its new aluminum F-150 truck during January's Detroit Auto Show, according to Bloomberg News.
The automaker said at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas that they would be unveiling a pickup shortly after the New Year, which will now likely take place at the North American International Auto Show.
Aloca Inc. is supposedly working with Ford to construct the new aluminum vehicle, according to Bloomberg News. The company is known for making military-grade metal, which is what Ford wanted for its new F-150 pickup.
Thanks to the aluminum metal, the vehicle is expected to be hundreds of pounds lighter, meaning it will likely meet new EPA fuel economy standards by as early as 2016, according to Bloomberg News.
The truck could be over 700 pounds lighter than its predecessor when all things are said and done.
The EPA hasn't released fuel-economy predictions for the truck yet, but it could have a 30 mpg highway rating if they're able to reduce that much weight.
"Ford's sales job will be considerable: The company is eager to demonstrate the toughness of aluminum, which is lighter than steel, to pickup buyers who've made F-150 the bedrock of its business," Bloomberg said about the truck.
The F-Series has been the best-selling line of trucks in the U.S. for the last 37 years.
The Detroit Auto Show is set to take place Jan. 13-26 at the COBO Center in Detroit, Michigan. Make sure to check back once more information has been revealed during Ford's press conference.
