Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Update Coming in Late January?

Samsung may update its newest devices with Android 4.4 KitKat by late-January, according to the International Business Times.

The smartphone company has yet to formally reveal plans for its next operating system, but mobile network SFR France has supposedly confirmed that the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 will receive updates shortly after the new year.

SFR has been correct in the past about a number of updates for Android products, as it was correct when Android 4.3 Jelly Bean would be released for the S3 and Note 2. Most devices have since been updated to 4.3.

"The update to Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) should be available between late January and early February 2014 for Samsung Galaxy S4 and SFR Galaxy Note 3 SFR," SFR said.

The site claims that updates will start for internationally first for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note 3 devices. U.S. devices are often subject to carrier approval before updates can be introduced, which could take a week or even months, according ibt.com.

Other reports have indicated it'll take a little longer for Android 4.4 to be introduced for all Samsung products.

iTechAddict.com says that an update for the S4 and Note 3 will come around the same time that SFR reported, but updates for the S3 and Note 2 could take until March or April.

Companies like Sony and HTC have supposedly confirmed that they will start updating new devices to Android 4.4 in January. This could likely mean that Samsung will do the same with at least most of their devices by mid-January to keep up with the competition.

Make sure to check back once more information has been formally released regarding the latest KitKat update.
