McLaren Recall: 2012-’14 MP4-12C Models Called Back Over Defective Wipers

McLaren Automotive is recalling 376 2012-'14 MP4-12C Coupe and Spider vehicles to repair non-functioning wipers, according a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall affects cars sold or currently registered in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas, according to the automaker.

The vehicles were built from Oct. 10, 2011 through Oct. 23, 2013.

"Due to a combination of high ambient temperatures and humidity, the wiper motor brushes may jam, causing the wiper motor to stop working," said the NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "Non-functioning wipers during inclement weather may reduce the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash."

McLaren Automotive told safety regulators it has received nine reports of wiper-motor failures in the U.S. so far, according to the NHTSA.

McLaren dealers are being instructed to replace the wiper motors, free of charge.

Owners can contact McLaren at 1-646-429-8916.
