Audi Q1 Compact Crossover Confirmed, Expected by 2016

Audi has confirmed production for a new compact SUV that could be released in early 2016.

The automaker will start production for the Audi Q1 in 2016, according to Edmunds.

"It is designed on the basis of the modular transverse engine concept and will round off our Q series at the bottom end," said Rupert Stadler, chairman of the board of management of Audi AG, in a statement.

Audi hasn't confirmed any details regarding pricing, launch date, or specifications as of press time.

The new SUV is supposedly a part of a huge expansion of the German company's product line, according to Edmunds.

Audi plans to grow its lineup from "49 to more than 60 models."

The company has also not confirmed if the new vehicle will be sold in the U.S. or not.

"No word on if we will get this," wrote Joe Jacuzzi, an Audi of America spokesman, according to Edmunds.

Nevertheless, the announcement of a new vehicle and expanded lineup and is exciting for any Audi fan.
