Tesla Motors Model S Gets Top Satisfaction Ranking From Consumer Reports Despite Fires

Consumer Reports said this week that the Tesla Model S electric car earned a near-perfect score in an annual owner-satisfaction survey.

The vehicle supposedly earned a 99 out of 10, according to the magazine.

"Owners of the Tesla Model S gave it the highest owner-satisfaction score Consumer Reports has seen in years: 99 out of 100," the magazine said.

The news comes at an interesting time for the automaker, who is currently trying to avoid a government investigation into the Model S after three cars caught fire in less than two months. Two of the incidents occurred in the U.S.

The Porsche Boxster sports vehicle came in second place with a respectable score of 95. The Porsche 911, Chevrolet Volt both received a 91.

The magazine chose not to mention the fires in the press release and article about the survey results. Consumer Reports conducted the survey during the spring, according to Reuters.

"In testing, the Model S stands out for its innovative design, outstanding performance and surprising practicality. These results suggest Tesla owners are very, very satisfied," said Jake Fisher, Consumer Reports' director of automotive testing.

The results were based on 350,000 responses from subscribes who said they had bought a car in the last couple of years.

The survey will be published in the January issue of the magazine, set to reach newsstands next week, according to Reuters.
