Walmart Website Glitch: Discounted Items Ordered During Website Malfunction Won’t be Sent to Customers

Shoppers who thought they were getting a great deal this week when Walmart's website glitch marked down items a significant amount won't be getting their items after the mega store announced the discounted orders won't be honored.

The glitch offered some items at a fraction of their actual retail prices, according to Reuters.

For example, treadmills that usually cost hundreds of dollars were available for $33.16, and expensive computer monitors were offered for $9.

Ravi Jariwala, a spokesman for Walmart.com, was the one to confirm that the issue has been fixed and the orders would not be honored.

"Given the wide discrepancy in pricing, we are notifying customers who ordered these items that their orders have been canceled and that they'll be refunded in full," Jariwala said in an e-mail.

A $10 gift card will be sent to customers for their troubles however.

Wal-Mart has yet to confirm how many orders were placed, but most of the items were electronics, according to Jariwala.

The glitch occurred just a few days after Wal-Mart started its online holiday season deals on Nov. 1, a full month earlier than the company usually starts its holiday sales.

"This is particularly disappointing since Wal-Mart has been investing aggressively in e-commerce in the last two years," said Brian Sozzi, CEO & Chief Equities Strategist at Belus Capital Advisors.
