Driver Dies After Car Plummets Into Lake Michigan (VIDEO)

A man died after driving his car into Lake Michigan at Balbo Drive this week, and police now think he might have suffered a seizure, according to The Chicago Tribune.

Steven Halperin, 64, was crossing Lake Shore Drive before his vehicle left the road and plunged into the water at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 8.

Divers were able to get the man out of the vehicle after finding it and breaking a window, according to Deputy Fire Chief Ron Dorneker.

"We immediately put a dive team into work, they went into the water and located the car. The car doors were locked, the diver had to break a window to do a search of the car and then located one victim in the vehicle," said Dorneker, according to The Chicago Tribune.

No one else was found inside the vehicle.

Halperin was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:07 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Kimberly Brown, a witness, said she was driving on Lake Shore Drive when the incident took place. Brown was able to see the vehicle cross Lake Shore Dive at Balbo and said the driver stopped several times for northbound cars to pass and continued to go east instead of turning onto the drive, according to The Chicago Tribune.

''As the car passed, he continued to go. He came across the curb, and I saw it as the car went down the stairs,'' said Brown.

Brown called 911 after seeing the car disappear from her sight.

The incident is still under investigation.
