2014 E250 BlueTEC Sedan Gets 45 MPG Highway Rating, 28 in City

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class has achieved an estimated EPA rating of 45 miles per gallon on the highway, and 28 mpg in city driving.

The vehicle, called the 2014 E250 BlueTec sedan is the first diesel E-Class to be made available with 4Matic and achieves the best-in-class fuel efficiency for a midsize luxury sedan and for the entire automotive industry in the same range, according to a company press release.

Mercedes-Benz said that models with optional 4MATIC all-wheel drive achieves 42 mpg on the highway, and 27 during in city driving.

The automaker had projected a 45-mpg highway fuel economy rating for their newest model.

Fuel pressure for the new vehicle's direct fuel injection system is 28,400 lbs. per square inch, according to the automaker.

The E250 delivers 195hp, and 369 lb-ft of torque. Its seven-speed 4MATIC transmission has been discussed at length by the automaker for being able to reduce fuel use.

Interested customers can purchase the vehicle for a base price of $53,900 later this month.

In comparison, the 2014 BMW 328d returns 32 mpg in city driving and 45 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. The 2013 Volkswagen Passat diesel model returns 31 mpg in city driving and 43 mpg on the highway.
