A 55-story Ferris wheel is under construction in Las Vegas, and once it is complete, it will be the tallest Ferris wheel in the world.
The outer portion of the gargantuan Ferris wheel, called The High Roller, will be put into place on Sept. 10, according to the Associated Press.
The project is already visible from all over Las Vegas, including the city's local airport. By 2014, it will be equipped with over 1,500 LED lights and will start spinning.
"It's going to be an icon," Project Director David Codiga said, according to the Associated Press. "It's going to be a part of your visit to Las Vegas if you ride it or not. It's more or less impossible not to see it if you come here."
The $550 million ride is being built by Caesars Entertainment Corp. in a new outdoor walking mall between Flamingo and Harrah's hotel-casino.
Expect the ride to be open by this winter, according to the Associated Press.
The High Roller will be 100 feet taller than the London Eye, which opened back in 2000, and will be 30 feet taller than China's Star of Nanchang, which opened back in 2009.
Riders won't be allowed to gamble on the Ferris wheel, but they will be allowed to bring a drink along.
The wheel is taller than the world-famous Bellagio hotel-casino, and will carry 3.5 million pounds of steel.
It takes 30 minutes to complete one revolution, according to the Associated Press.
