A 350-pound marlin jumped into a boat this weekend in Florida nearly injuring the crew off the coast of the Dominican Republic.

The crew was trying to reel the giant fish after it got stuck under the boat when suddenly it jumped up on the deck of the 62-foot yacht according to MSN News.

Captain Eddie Wheeler said he would have released the fish back to the sea after it jumped in but it died due to injuries from the impact of the jump according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The crew gave the marlin to a local fisherman.

Marlins can weigh over 1,500 pounds, and the weight of the fish alone could crush a person. Luckily the crew was able to avoid the marlin as it jumped onto the boat.

"The guys down there are lucky (the marlin) didn't hurt one of them," boat owner Bobby Jacobsen said to Bay News 9. "There's a piece of teak wood around the side of the boat there called the covering board and [the marlin] put a nice hole about an inch thick and cracked it completely about two feet long. (The fish's snout) could have gone through somebody."

A video, which has since gone viral, shows what exactly happened and in it viewers can see that the marline almost sliced one of the fisherman with its nose.

In 2012, a woman caught a 12-foot marlin that weighed 1,022.5 pounds while fishing in Hawaii.

Molly Palmer, who was helped by her friends when reeling in the marlin, beat the previous world record of 950 pounds according to the Associated Press.
