Chinese Dog Lion: Zoo Visitors Learn They've Been Fooled After Hearing ‘African Lion’ Bark (VIDEO)

A Chinese zoo ticked off a lot of paying customers recently after trying to pass off a dog as an "African lion," according to CNN.

One visitor, surnamed Liu, said she discovered the hoax when visiting the zoo with her son. They walked towards the gate titled "African lion" and were surprised when they heard the animal bark.

The animal was really a Tibetan mastiff, which is a large, and hairy dog.

"The zoo is absolutely trying to cheat us," Liu said according to the Beijing Youth Daily. "They are trying to disguise dogs as lions."

Other animals were also mislabeled as well, as another dog was seen in a wolf cage, and a white fox was in a leopard cage according to the Beijing Youth Daily.

The head of the zoo's animal department didn't deny that the animals were dogs, and said to CNN that the animals had to be "substituted for various reasons."

The lion and leopard were not on display because they had both been removed "for breeding."

The zoo claims they're not substituting animals due to a shortage of funds, and that the animals would return to their proper spots "soon."

People are mad at the zoo however, as they've taken to Chinese social media to voice their displeasure with the zoo.
