Toyota Recalls 342,000 Tacomas Over Faulty Seatbelt Pre-Tensioners

Toyota Motor Inc. has announced that it will conduct a safety recall involving 342,000 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab vehicles.

The Tacoma vehicles were produced from 2004 to 2011 according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The vehicles involved in the recall contain screws that attach the seat belt pre-tensioner to the seat belt retractor within the seat belt assembly for the driver and front passenger that "can become loose over time" according to the NHTSA.

The issue occurs thanks to "repeatedly and forcefully" closing the previously mentioned doors. If the screws come off completely, the seat belt pre-tensioner and the retractor spring cover could come off from the seat belt retractor. This could affect the way the retractor and pre-tensioner perform in the vehicle.

Toyota said they have not been notified of any injuries or deaths relating to the issue as of press time.

Owners of vehicles involved with this recalled will receive a letter of notification in the mail according to the NHTSA.
