Nissan to Add EV Quick Charging Stations at Over 100 Different U.S. Dealerships

Nissan has announced plans to increase its charging station network nationwide at Leaf-certified Nissan dealerships. Over 100 new fast chargers will be added to 24 different locations around the country according to a company press statement.

By using a Nissan station, Leaf owners can charge their vehicles to 80-percent in just 30 minutes.

"It's a key market for our growth and has been pretty strong in Leaf sales since we launched," said Nissan spokesperson Brian Brockman.

Installations should be completed by the spring of 2014 and in some locations a new charging station could be finished in just a couple of months according to Nissan.

The decision to make more charging stations was made to attract more people to buy the Nissan Leaf.

"Nissan is undertaking a proactive, multi-pronged approach to expand charging infrastructure to enhance awareness of electric cars like the Leaf and instill range confidence in potential customers," said Brendan Jones, director of electric vehicle infrastructure strategy for Nissan in a press statement.

Many interested customers eventually decide not to go with the Leaf because they're worried about getting stranded on the road somewhere.

Nissan's charging partner, AeroVironment, will produce the charger stations and will provide installation services for almost all new quick charging units according to Nissan.

Approximately 850 U.S. dealers are currently certified to sell and service Nissan Leaf models.

"We know that available charging infrastructure opens the doors for more Nissan Leaf sales," said Jones.
