The electric revolution in the auto industry continues to gain momentum, with Mercedes-AMG the latest carmaker to contribute to the cause. Mercedes' AMG performance division just unveiled two new electric models, both of which provide added firepower to the company's famed EQE lineup.
The EQE 43 4Matic is the entry point to Mercedes-AMG's EQE fleet. The high-performance mid-size sedan boasts 350kW and a massive 858Nm of twist from two electric motors connected to the car's fully variable all-wheel-drive system. Both motors are specifically engineered for AMG, with one assigned for the front wheels and the other for the back wheels.
For customers wanting more power from their AMG-ified EQE vehicle, then the EQE 53 4Matic+ is the car for you. The two electric motors provide 460kW and a healthy 950Nm of torque. Those numbers increase further for customers availing the AMG Dynamic Plus package, with the pair of electric motors producing a combined output of 505kW and an incredible 1,000Nm of torque.
Those motors can briefly generate up to 677 horsepower when the car is set in a Race Start acceleration mode. Those figures are not far away from the maximum output of Porsche's Taycan Turbo S, which generates 560 kW and 1050 Nm of twist.
These performance models are based on the electric EQE sedan that Mercedes revealed in the fall. Similar to other models of the Mercedes EQ, the new EQE models are built from a specific electric-only engineering platform. Since these vehicles no longer need to hold a gas engine under their hoods, the EQE has a more rounded shape than the gasoline-powered E-class models.
Each AMG EQE model gets a 90.6kWh battery pack that has 328-volt workings. The battery pack supports charge rates that can reach up to 170kW at DC fast chargers, which is pretty impressive given that it can generate enough power for 180 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes.
Like most electric vehicles, there is also a regeneration function with the AMG EQE models. That feature can help the EV pull back power of up to 260 kW. Depending on the situation, both models support one-pedal driving and can dial up the regeneration by itself.

The EQE 43 4Matic and the EQE 53 4Matic+ feature an optional Drive Pilot pack. This particular function enables the system to automatically go slow based on the vehicles in front until they come to a halt. Drivers can utilize this feature even without enabling adaptive cruise control.
AMG also developed special driving sounds for its EQE cars with additional hardware such as special speakers, a sound generator, and a bass actuator, the ones responsible for generating them. Mercedes-AMG has not released any details yet about the price of the new EQE models, which will go on sale early next year.
