2018 Ford Expedition FX4 Reportedly May Put The Jeep Wrangler Out Of The Top Spot

SUVs and hot hatches are at the top spot, however, off-roaders are closely trailing behind. With the release of 2018 Ford Expedition FX4, competition for the best off-roader has become ever tougher and tighter. Jeep Wrangler has been an all-time favorite off-roader but the Expedition FX4 may be its toughest competition.

Ford recently announced that the all-new aluminum-bodied 2018 Ford Expedition FX4 is made available not too long from now this fall. It is reported that this is the first time that such package has been introduced since 2003 on the Ford F-150.

The 2018 Expedition FX4 has more potent and powerful suspension system. It does come with limited-slip rear differential for improved traction on loose surfaces. It also has seven protective underbody plates and an all-terrain Michelin tires on 18-inch wheels.

Given all these, it is clearly promising. The upcoming Expedition FX4 comes across as a capable off-roader, ready to take any harsh terrain and road conditions it may be subjected to. Its all-aluminum body makes it extremely lightweight, which is significantly beneficial in terms of its overall performance.

It is equipped with 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, which is responsible for 375-horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. There is a good similarity between the Expedition FX4 and Jeep Wrangler as both come in a predominantly aluminum body. The 2018 Jeep Wrangler keeps its solid front and rear axles and body-on-frame construction.

The upcoming Jeep Wrangler is expected to produce 240-horsepower turbodiesel 3.0-liter V-6 engine. This translates to an impressive power and capability easily making it as one of the best off-roaders.

The 2018 Ford Expedition FX4 is potent, powerful and robust. However, the Jeep Wrangler has mastered the science of off-roading as it has been notoriously known for it over the years. The 2018 Expedition FX4 is an awesome off-roader, no doubt. If it is so good to take the glory away from the Wrangler, that may still have to be seen.
