The 2017 Mazda CX-9 has just been awarded the 2017 Top Safety Pick+ award by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It features improved crash prevention and superior front crash prevention systems.

The midsize SUV from Mazda has surpassed the other rivals in terms of safety. The CX-9 earned the award because of its acceptable-rated headlights and superior-rated front crash prevention system. The IIHS announced the across-the-board good crashworthiness ratings of the new model has qualified the vehicle for the top award.

According to IIHS, the 2017 Mazda CX-9 has improved its crash protection system. On top of that, the new model has also included the optional front crash prevention system. This new system has earned a superior rating from the organization. The new SUV has avoided collisions at 12 mph and 25 mph during the IIHS track tests.

The IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award is given to the vehicle that will earn good ratings in the following tests: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint. In addition to the test good ratings, the model should possess superior front crash prevention and headlights to acquire the good rating.

Furthermore, the new CX-9 also features a Forward Collision Warning system. This new system has also passed the criteria of the National Highway Traffic Safety.

Mazda has shared its vision for the new CX-9 that ultimately earned the much-coveted safety award. According to Masashi Otsuka, VP of R&D and design, MNAO, "The concept of 'self' and 'family,' as well as 'smart indulgence' led the way for our engineers and designers to create their ideal midsize crossover SUV."

Meanwhile, the 2017 Mazda CX-9 has also earned notations from other prestigious groups. It has recently been included on Wards Automotive's 10 Best Interiors list and 10 Best Engines list for 2017. It has also been listed as one of the honorees of Car and Driver 10 Best Trucks and SUVs.
