George Michael Crash: Singer Airlifted, Treated for Minor Injuries After Crashing Near London (VIDEO)

British singer George Michael received medical treatment and is still recovering being involved in a car crash on May 16. Michael was a passenger in the vehicle when it crashed according to the Associated Press.

The 49-year-old was treated for "minor cuts and bruises" after the crash according to Michael's spokeswoman.

"George Michael was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a traffic accident yesterday evening, no third party was involved," a spokeswoman said according to Reuters. "He is being treated for superficial cuts and bruises but is fine."

The crash took place just outside London on a major British highway, M1, during rush hour.

Michael's publicist Connie Fillippello said no other vehicle was involved in the crash according to the Associated Press. The northbound side of the highway was closed for an hour to allow emergency services to handle the incident according to the Associated Press.

The former Wham! singer has been through a number of health scares the last five years or so.

In 2012, he canceled his tour of Australia due to a "major anxiety" attack brought on by a 2011 battle with pneumonia in Vienna, where he was treated in an intensive care unit for over a month for a life-threatening illness.

Michael has sold over 100 million records during the course of his career, but the last decade or so he's become more known for his personal life than his music.

In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked Michael the 40th most successful artist on the Billboard Hot 100 Top All-Time Artists list.

Back in 1998, Michael was arrest in California for "engaging in a lewd act" in a public toilet and was also arrested on multiple occasions for possession of narcotics.

He served a lengthily jail term in 2010 for driving under the influence of marijuana after crashing his Range Rover into a photo shop in north London according to Reuters.
