BMW 8 Series Coupe Is Finally Happening

German automaker, BMW, has finally announced that it will introduce a brand new 8 Series Coupe next year. A design concept that will preview the new model will be making its debut at this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este this coming May 26.

At the company's Annual General Meeting, BMW boss, Harald Kruger said; "The BMW 8 Series Coupe will build on our tradition of luxurious sports coupes and add a genuine dream car to our line-up - a slice of pure automotive fascination," Krüger said. "The 8 Series Coupe will underpin our claim to leadership in the luxury segment. I can tell you today that this will be a true luxury sports coupe."

The new sketch suggests that the new coupe will come with a LED headlight and taillight elements, a new spoiler built into the boot lid, and a character line above the rear wheel arch. It will also keep the automaker's signature Hofmeister kink.

This good news came out when the automaker announced that the 6 Series coupe had been discontinued, leaving an executive coupe-shaped hole in the automaker's lineup. Speculations about the 8 Series has been out for many months already, and now it looks like it's finally happening.

In addition, BMW also revealed a teaser photo showing a low-slung coupe that has a long hood and wide haunches. The silhouette showed the look of the 8 Series prototypes that was caught running around recently. In fact, a BMW 8 Series test mule was spotted earlier this year at the Nurburgring revealing its high beltline and sloped roofline.

Unfortunately, engine options remain unclear at this point, but the new vehicle could borrow the same engine with the 7 Series, offering a 3.0-liter turbo-six, a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12, and a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. M Performance and M Sport version are also possible.

The new BMW 8 Series Coupe will take on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and the Lexus LC 500. Stay tuned to Auto World News for more updates!
