Android 7.0 Nougat Update Now Available For US Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, But There Is A Catch!

The long awaited update for Android 7.0 Nougat is finally available for download and installation on any unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, US versions. But there's a minor catch before you jump for joy.

Even though unlocked phones in the US are pretty much amazing because of usually faster updates as being one of its perks, this isn't the case for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge as the Android 7.0 Nougat update has only been released for all US carrier versions of the same unit. And unlocked models were forced to live with Marshmallow.

But that is about to change as it is finally available now. But brace yourself for a heavy file. Why file? Because you have to download the file first, for now that is, via the PC-based Smart Switch application from Samsung.

It seems Samsung, quietly, added the Android 7.0 Nougat update to the PC-based Smart Switch application late last Friday, via Samsung US Forums. So, if you want to update, the users will have to connect the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge to a PC. Instructions will be given then on how to download and install the Nougat update.

The Nougat update also brings in the security patch for April 1. But the download size is a whopping 2.264 GB. So make sure you have ample space for that.

Of course, there will be a host of improvements for the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. The Android 7.0 Nougat update provides new UX and various performance modes, improved usability of the Notification feature and Quick settings button, improved usability of the Multi window, efficient space for installation of downloaded apps, improved speed of system upgrade and app installation, and improved setting menu and AOD feature, addition of the Samsung pass feature.

Now that Android 7.0 Nougat is available for unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge could be a sign that the Samsung maybe really close to providing an OTA update for the same device. However, note that the Smart Switch availability of the Nougat update is only for S7 Edge devices in the US, only. We can only hope for international updates, soon.
