Tesla made a statement that a software had already rolled out on the Tesla cars' Automatic-Braking capability. The update was made last Thursday and it's currently on evaluation.
The roll out was made a day after Consumer Reports gave Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X a 2 points deduction from their ratings due to the absence of the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) feature on the vehicles. It can be recalled that buyers hoped it would restore the previous features on the list but unfortunately, it hasn't. This prompted Tesla buyers composed or 3 individuals to file a class-action lawsuit just as a week ago after Tesla failed to reinstall the "nonfunctional Enhanced Autopilot AP 2.0 software and inoperative Standard Safety Features."
The fundamental reason given by Consumer Reports is due to the car manufacturer's failure to enable an automatic breaking feature on both vehicles. It has already been six months since the announcement of the auto-braking feature.
In response to such incident, Tesla has announced that an over the air roll out has already been done 1 day prior to the published rating downgrade. The magazine released their report Wednesday while Tesla rolled out the safety feature Tuesday.
Previous generations of the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model x are automatically equipped withAutomatic Emergency Braking (AEB) features. Newer generations manufactured from late October 2016 to the present does not include the feature.
Consumer Reports give higher ratings to a vehicle with automatic emergency braking as standard safety features compared to automobiles that include it as an upgrade. "We place value on safe breaking technology in preventing collisions and fatal crashes when rating an automobile", the magazine added.
Consumer Report's ratings definitely hold a huge factor on buyer especially the moneyed ones which Telstra is trying to attract. With the decrease in its rating, the Model S is no longer the top rated amongst its class while the Model X found itself in the middle of the pack.
But since the AEB safety features, roll-out has already started, Tesla is confident that it would just be a matter of time before the famed magazine critics upgrade its rating ones again. Asked for comments, Consumer Report specified that it will take into consideration what Tesla has been doing when they make their next car appraisal.
