The next-generation 2019 Audi S8 will be officially unveiled on July 11th in Barcelona. But the S8 is unlikely to come out from day one, which means everyone will have to wait until the end of the year or early next year.
A camouflaged prototype sedan was spotted testing at the Nurburgring that had body panels borrowed from the regular A8. It did come with a quad exhaust setup and a lowered sports suspension revealing its true design.
Despite having a heavy camouflage, the photos revealed some new changes of the 2019 Audi S8. The rear end of the car will have a pair of interconnected taillights, which represent the most noticeable update than the current model. But overall, the large-and-in-charge sedan will look handsome, but unfortunately, it won't be appealing as those Prologue concepts seen in the past few years.
Since Audi and Porsche had teamed up on engine development, the S8 is likely to have the same bi-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that is available in the latest Panamera Turbo. The engine can produce 550 PS and 567 lb-ft of torque. And with the S4 having a little more power than the base Panamera, the S8 could pack about 570 PS.
Created by Audi Sport, the new S8 was seen being pushed to its limit by the test driver to gather relevant information about what needs to be improved to make sure that the sporty sedan will live up to its status. But considering that the new S8 will weigh around the range of two tons, it won't be as nimble as the Miata, but it would surely be able to grasp the miles seriously fast.
Furthermore, when it comes to performance, the new S8 can accelerate from 0-68 mph (0-100 kph) in just four seconds or slightly less than that since the standard S8 is figured at 4.1 seconds. Top speed is estimated at 155 mph (250kph).
The new 2019 Audi S8 will also be bigger and stiffer while the interior will give additional space. But for customers who wants a larger vehicle, a more suitable choice would be the new extended-wheelbase A8L that gives extra legroom in the rear and equipped with a Biturbo 6.0-liter W12 engine that is also shared with the Bentley Bentayga.
